These are some of the highlights of what is involved in a day in training from 2 days old to 8 weeks!
2 Days – 2 Weeks
The pups begin – weighing in mornings to make sure that they are gaining weight to verify they are growing properly, and we begin to enjoy watching them bond with their mom as well as with our team.
We begin (ENS) Early Neurological Stimulation exercises once a day. It is a time of rapid neurological growth for the youngsters. Most do well and are sensitized to a series of five exercises within the first few days. Each exercise is 5 – 10 seconds.
- Holding upright
-Leaning left
- Leaning right
Leaning backwards
- Leaning upside down
Introducing various textures to their pads
At the end of 2 weeks, they open their eyes and are learning to walk and navigate.
2 Weeks – 4 Weeks
Eyes and ears are now open and socialization starts. They begin asking for attention and find their voice. We keep the nails short from scratching mom and introduce a different toy daily. This is also the stage where we start teaching recovery from fear - bouncing back. We make loud noises with various objects. It is said that a puppy trust when we can touch and handle their ears, paws and mouths to continue this daily.
Photos and videos will post online!
4 Weeks – 6 Weeks
The fun begins. They are playing with toys, running after each other, receiving lots of love and socialization.
The babies are weaning from momma and getting into the soft food and water. Seeing them congregate and at times toppling head first into their food is very sweet to see as they race one another to eat. They are so excited about their new meals.
During these weeks we are potty training, introducing them to many different textures, sounds, various activities, and introducing them to small steps upwards and downwards.
6 Weeks – 8 Weeks
During these weeks we are working on crate training, grooming, nail clipping, commands such as come, down, sit, stay and nurturing them until they go to their forever home! We will share with you their personality traits and dispositions.
So, the care we take in breeding to create the best puppies is matched by the thorough socialization we give them throughout the formative first eight weeks of life.
